About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Assistant to join our team at the Nova Scotia Community College. As a key member of the School of Trades and Transportation, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of our shops and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the maintenance of shop equipment and implement preventative maintenance procedures to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for students and staff, adhering to all relevant safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the setup and display of special events, and provide support to faculty with lab and pre-lab organization.
  • Supervise the Pipe and Industrial Mechanic shops during service periods, ensuring compliance with safety and quality control requirements.
  • Assist with training opportunities for students, and maintain inventory control and ordering of materials to meet curriculum requirements.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff and provide excellent customer service to all users of the shop and classroom spaces.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A college diploma or certificate in a related discipline, such as Industrial Mechanic, Plumber, Pipefitter, or Welder.
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent and related occupational experience.
  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Basic knowledge of trades operations and safe working conditions.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite and email.
