Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physician to join our team at Island Health, providing outpatient Addiction Medicine Services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders in the Western Communities area.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain opioid agonist therapy (OAT) for stable clients, ensuring effective treatment and patient outcomes.
  2. Conduct new patient consultations and initiate OAT for clients with opioid use disorder, providing comprehensive assessments and diagnosis.
  3. Perform comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients, with a focus on managing withdrawal symptoms and complex overlapping pain and addiction disorders.
  4. Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with complex overlapping pain and addiction disorders, utilizing evidence-based practices.
  5. Initiate OAT when required for opioid use disorders, and initiate anti-craving medication for clients with alcohol use disorder.
  6. Perform relevant diagnostic testing for the treatment of substance use disorders, ensuring accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
  7. Facilitate robust discharge planning to connect patients with their Most Responsible Provider (MRP), ensuring seamless transitions and continued care.
  8. Document patient care when the patient is not present, maintaining accurate and comprehensive medical records.
  9. Review diagnostic tests, ensuring accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
  10. Participate in patient-specific conferences and team meetings when appropriate, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.
  11. Correspond and communicate with other patient care providers, ensuring effective communication and coordination of care.
Clinical Administrative Services
  1. Engage in clinically related administrative activities, including medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and incident report reviews, ensuring quality and safety standards.
  2. Provide consultation with other programs or agencies specific to the services, sharing expertise and best practices.
  3. Contribute to program planning and development activities when appropriate, ensuring alignment with Island Health's strategic objectives.
  4. Participate in evaluating the efficiency, quality, and delivery of services, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes.
Qualifications
  1. Medical degree from an accredited institution, with a strong foundation in addiction medicine.
  2. Valid medical license in the province of British Columbia, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  3. Board certification in Addiction Medicine (preferred), demonstrating expertise in addiction medicine.
  4. Experience in providing addiction medicine services and treating substance use disorders, with a strong track record of success.
  5. Strong clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for substance use disorders, with a focus on evidence-based practices.
  6. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring seamless care coordination and patient outcomes.
