KEY QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in a related health discipline and five years of recent experience in infection prevention and control in a healthcare environment, with progressive administrative responsibilities, is required.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Membership or certification with a relevant registering association and post-basic education in infection prevention and control or epidemiology is required.
  • A thorough knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control services, techniques, principles, and practices is essential.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and delegate, are necessary.
  • The ability to demonstrate Island Health's values (Courage, Aspire, Respect, and Empathy) is required.
  • Strong systems-thinking, critical analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Proven strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as good presentation skills, are necessary.
  • The ability to develop effective working relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders across a wide range of groups is required.
  • Strong team-building and coaching/development skills are essential.
  • The ability to successfully educate adult learners, including the development of in-services, lesson plans, competency testing, and orientation using different delivery methods based on students' strengths, is required.
  • Evidence of the ability to successfully manage and support change through negotiation and facilitation is necessary.
  • The ability to lead in the support, development, and education of Island Health policies and procedures related to Infection Prevention and Control is required.
  • The ability to find creative solutions to problems and to develop alternative strategies to support quality improvement initiatives is essential.
  • The ability to define own continuing education needs and maintain competency through reading literature, management development, seminars, and available educational offerings is necessary.
  • Computer proficiency in areas such as patient information, surveillance, and office suite software is required.
  • Self-directed with effective organizational, time management, and prioritization skills are essential.
  • The physical ability to perform the duties of the position is required.
  • A valid BC Driver's License is necessary.
