Job Description

The Recreation Programmer reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager or designate and is responsible for implementing and evaluating activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff, residents, and family members to support the organizational culture and purpose.
  • Promote and carry out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, and games.
  • Assist residents with portering to and from programs as required and observe, document, and report any changes in residents' condition to the supervisor and/or nurse.
  • Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff by following accident prevention procedures, knowledge of emergency procedures, regulations, safe use of supplies and equipment, and reporting when repairs are necessary.
  • Utilize infection control procedures to ensure a healthy environment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality, and security.
  • Actively participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
  • Assist in maintaining statistical records using Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.
  • Assist with orientation of new residents and encourage participation or volunteering in community programs.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and support to volunteers and assist in evaluating their performance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Education.
  • Graduate from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate program.
  • Previous experience in a senior-focused environment an asset.
  • Dementia course an asset.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
  • Serving It Right Certificate.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License a requirement.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.

Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
