Job Title: Unit Clerk

Job Summary:

The Unit Clerk/Operating Room (O.R.) Booking Clerk plays a vital role in the operation of a patient care area, ensuring seamless communication and coordination of patient care. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a communication link for the Unit, transcribing and processing physician's orders, coordinating patient appointments, and arranging patient tests and receiving results.
  • Prepare, distribute, and make revisions to the daily and weekly O.R. slates using a computerized scheduling system.
  • Maintain patient and surgical information by entering data into the computer, reviewing booking forms, and maintaining and filing other records related to booking procedures.
  • Communicate with O.R. medical staff and offices, as well as various hospital departments, regarding surgical bookings, changes, and revisions to the surgical slates.
  • Prepare statistical reports for the Ministry of Health.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program.
  • One year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
