Accounting Manager
Wood's Homes is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our Finance Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the accounting department, implementing and maintaining our accounting and payroll systems, and providing financial leadership to the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver timely and accurate accounting reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and analyses for Senior Management and Program Managers.
- Collaborate with Senior Management to prepare annual operating budgets and quarterly reforecasts.
- Review and approve transactions, including billings, payables, and journal entries.
- Manage the use and structure of accounting and budgeting software.
- Ensure effective internal controls are properly designed, implemented, and adhered to.
- Review and reconcile accounts regularly.
- Liaise with banks and auditors to maintain positive relationships.
- Work closely with program areas to develop informative financial plans and funding proposals.
- Train new leaders and address queries from program teams.
- Prepare annual provincial and federal government reports.
- Coordinate and maintain the contract management system.
- Ensure timely payroll delivery and proper tracking of personnel information.
- Engage actively with team leads and managers across the organization.
- Provide training and growth opportunities to a team of five to seven professionals.
- Participate in workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure health and safety compliance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree or diploma in a related field; CPA or CA/CGA/CMA designation (or near completion) is desirable.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience, with several years in hands-on full-cycle accounting.
- Proficiency in preparing month-end financial statements and working papers.
- Strong supervisory experience in implementing controls and analyzing financial data.
- Familiarity with financial software (experience with Great Plains and Planning Maestro preferred).
- Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting is a plus.
