Emergency Medical Call Taker Role Overview
The Emergency Medical Call Taker plays a vital role in the ambulance services, serving as the first point of contact for emergency medical situations. Working in a fast-paced call centre environment, the successful candidate will provide exceptional customer service while remaining calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Gather and share vital information, facilitating effective communication between the caller, dispatch team, paramedic crews, and hospitals;
- Utilize exceptional customer service skills, adapting quickly to dynamic situations and prioritizing multiple competing tasks;
- Take a leadership role, actively building relationships with team members and callers;
- Actively seek win-win solutions, maintaining professionalism in cases of healthy conflict and supporting differences of opinion;
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
- Valid certificates in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C;
- 2+ years' experience in customer service;
- Experience in a call centre is an asset;
- Fluent spoken and written English;

- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada;

- Familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism;

Next Steps in the Recruitment Process
- Shortlisted candidates will receive an email invitation to participate in a virtual testing session;
- Successful candidates will then be asked to complete a pre-screening personality assessment;
- Applicants who are shortlisted from these tests will be contacted to come into the centre to complete an observation shift;
- A final behavioural-based interview will be conducted for successful candidates.
