Emergency Medical Call Taker Role Overview


The Emergency Medical Call Taker plays a vital role in the ambulance services, serving as the first point of contact for emergency medical situations. Working in a fast-paced call centre environment, the successful candidate will provide exceptional customer service while remaining calm and focused in high-pressure situations.



  • Gather and share vital information, facilitating effective communication between the caller, dispatch team, paramedic crews, and hospitals;
  • Utilize exceptional customer service skills, adapting quickly to dynamic situations and prioritizing multiple competing tasks;
  • Take a leadership role, actively building relationships with team members and callers;
  • Actively seek win-win solutions, maintaining professionalism in cases of healthy conflict and supporting differences of opinion;

Key Qualifications and Skills



  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
  • Valid certificates in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C;
  • 2+ years' experience in customer service;
  • Experience in a call centre is an asset;
  • Fluent spoken and written English;

  • Listening and Data Entry Test;
  • CritiCall Personality Screening Test;

Next Steps in the Recruitment Process



  • Shortlisted candidates will receive an email invitation to participate in a virtual testing session;
  • Successful candidates will then be asked to complete a pre-screening personality assessment;
  • Applicants who are shortlisted from these tests will be contacted to come into the centre to complete an observation shift;
  • A final behavioural-based interview will be conducted for successful candidates.
