Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Finance Manager to join our team at the Bank of Montreal. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining an effective financial governance and controls framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive financial governance framework that ensures transparency, accuracy, and consistency across all business units.
  • Applies specialized knowledge of accounting and financial management risk, regulatory compliance, and internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial processes and information.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to senior management on governance matters, providing expert guidance and recommendations.
  • Leads the implementation of financial governance solutions, analyzing issues and implications for the business.
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Manages databases and provides support for analysis, forecasting, and data visualization, adhering to data governance standards.
  • Coordinates the management of databases, ensuring alignment and integration of data in accordance with data governance standards.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Leads the management of governance meetings, maintaining governing body mandates, oversight, and approval guidelines.
  • Leads the interpretation of new or changing regulations, assessing impacts to the governance framework.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and legislative/regulatory directives and guidance.
  • Supports the group/program leader in communicating advice across the Bank on regulatory environment changes.
  • Supports the management of governance meetings, including committee, management, and board meetings.
Requirements
  • Typically between 7 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the business and regulatory environment is required.
  • Control framework knowledge and experience are preferred.
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk, controls, and management is essential.
  • Expertise in internal and external audits is required.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience are necessary.
  • Data-driven decision making is essential.
