About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President – Facilities, the Director, Infrastructure & Sustainability is a key member of the Facilities leadership team responsible for facilities planning, design, engineering, renewal, and sustainability. This role focuses on long-term infrastructure development, ensuring accessibility, Indigenous, and equity principles support teaching, learning, and research within a modern university setting.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the planning, design, and construction of major and minor capital projects at the university.
  • Manage the multi-year, multi-million-dollar capital deferred renewal program.
  • Lead and support a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, fostering their success and development.
  • Hold accountability for the capital project life cycle and space management program.
  • Champion sustainability and climate action initiatives within strategic planning.
  • Guide the development and implementation of programs and policies for sustainability, space planning, and infrastructure requirements across the university.
  • Collaborate with consultants and contractors to ensure project success.
  • Identify funding opportunities and develop proposals, budgets, and presentations on sustainable landscape and infrastructure planning and development.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a strategic leader with exceptional communication and negotiation skills. Through collaboration and creativity, you solve problems and build strong relationships both internally and externally within the university. You demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainability as a leader of Memorial's sustainability culture.

You are a highly motivated and experienced professional with a proven track record of success in leading major capital projects, preferably within large complex organizations. Typically, this knowledge and experience is gained through education and professional certification in engineering or architecture; or extensive experience in a comparable role. In addition, you possess significant project management skills, sound knowledge of construction and the construction industry, experience with public tendering and the public procurement act, and have experience managing a team of professionals.

Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador is required. Knowledge of and experience working with building fire and accessibility codes are considered assets.
