About the Role:
The Unit Clerk – Long Term Care and Emergency is a critical member of the healthcare team at Alberta Health Services. Reporting to the Site Manager and Care Manager, and working under the direction of the charge nurse, this role is responsible for facilitating and coordinating activities and information on the nursing unit to ensure effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex and specialized clerical duties that require extensive knowledge of the department, organization, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Coordinate the efficient flow of communication between healthcare professionals, departments, patients, and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
- Perform a range of administrative tasks, including reception, greeting, and directing visitors, patients, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain patient records and charts, transcribe and process physician orders, and schedule patient tests and/or treatments.
- Support the unit with various administrative activities.
Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
- Recent unit clerk experience or recent experience performing similar duties preferably in the healthcare field.
- Proficiency and accurate computer skills, including data entry.
- Specific working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Connect Care training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Medical Terminology course.
