Job Title: Bilingual Disability Claims Specialist

At GFL Environmental, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Bilingual Disability Claims Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Disability Management department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth management of occupational and non-occupational claims across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Access, review, and process non-occupational and occupational claims in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Manage the claims and return-to-work process, including the completion of required documentation.
  • Advise managers, HR, and business leaders on best practices for work-related injuries and illnesses while meeting legislative and contractual requirements.
  • Prepare claim appeals, including file reviews and drafting formal employer submissions to support claims cost relief.
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information, including documentation and records throughout the life of a claim.
  • Develop injury and trending analysis for all regions.
  • Prepare detailed statistical trend analysis and develop reports and presentations, including graphs and charts.
  • Create clearance certificates and complete contractor agreements.
  • Initiate and lead return-to-work meetings with stakeholders when required.
  • Support the field H&S team with respect to disability management-related matters.
  • Conduct case assessments, contacting employees and their direct managers to explain the disability management process and gather information for assessment purposes.
  • Review job demands and identify suitable work while adhering to essential duties to ensure successful return-to-work solutions.
  • Determine an appropriate return-to-work plan with the employee and employer and provide active support for the RTW planning process.
  • Manage transitions from STD to LTD when applicable.
Requirements:
  • College diploma or university degree specializing in Human Resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing with employees and outside partners.
  • Comprehensive understanding of occupational disability management, specifically WCB/CSST/STD, and LTD.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Employment Standards Act.
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Self-starting, proactive individual who can work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and ability to learn HRIS.
  • Valid G driver's license and access to a vehicle, as travel is required.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and French.
