About the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario

Salary: $20-$25 per hour

We are currently seeking a Day Camp Counsellor to join our team of dedicated professionals. This full-time summer contract position will be housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's Chippewa and Tillicum Camp locations in North Bay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement engaging daily programs that cater to the needs of children aged 3-12, including group games, crafts, swimming, and outdoor activities.
  • Supervision and Engagement: Supervise, engage, and participate with program participants in group activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Behavior Management: Apply behavior management training techniques to promote positive interactions with program participants.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with all staff members and parents to ensure seamless program execution.
  • Safety and Security: Maintain a safe environment for all participants, property, staff, and volunteers by adhering to established practices and procedures.
  • Supply Management: Manage inventory of required supplies and request additional items when needed.
  • Relationship Building: Foster relationships with members and guests, promoting the YMCA as a charitable organization.

Requirements

  • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with/leading group activities for children aged 3-12 (e.g., babysitting).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification.
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
