We are seeking a qualified Instructor to teach substantive law courses in our Legal Assistant Program. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the legal industry and experience in teaching at the post-secondary level.
Key Responsibilities- Course Development
- Create engaging learning activities and assessments that promote active learner engagement and career-ready skills.
- Cultivate inclusive learning environments and engage with students about their progress and success.
- Champion current and innovative pedagogical practices, reflecting adult teaching methodologies and best practices.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support instructional and program quality improvement.
- Classroom Management
- Manage and lead a safe, positive, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment that allows students to express, share, and challenge ideas respectfully.
- Present courses, lesson plans, lectures, assignments, evaluations, examinations, and learning activities.
- Evaluate student progress and facilitate student achievement.
- Respond to academic integrity concerns and report to Academic Chair for follow-up as required.
- Ensure learner accommodations are correctly applied for learners with disabilities.
- Show personal interest in the learners.
- Create a climate conducive to optimal learning.
- Coordinate classroom delivery and assessments with faculty colleagues.
- Refer students to institutional supports and campus services as required.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and advice to learners and potential learners.
- Team Collaboration
- Contribute in a positive way to maintain a team environment.
- Attend and engage in meetings, professional development opportunities, and beyond.
- Maintain and develop contacts in appropriate industry sectors.
- Maintain and develop relationships with academic colleagues.
- Promote and support SAIT Polytechnic's and the School of Business mission statement and academic plans.
- Commitment to Professional Development and a continual learning culture.
- Depth of knowledge and expertise in the legal industry, including experience in the relevant field.
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years of industry experience.
- An aptitude for digital literacy.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both written and oral, as well as well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Work well in a team environment, and be able to excel in a collaborative environment.
- Previous teaching experience is required, experience at the post-secondary level is preferred.
- A Law Degree is required, Master's Degree or higher is an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
