The Island Health department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is seeking a part-time psychiatrist to provide community services in the region.
As a successful candidate, you will be supporting the Y Star child and youth crisis team and Discovery substance use services in Cowichan. The patient population primarily consists of teenagers dealing with substance use and mental health issues. You will work closely with the clinical team to triage patients, offer indirect support, arrange consultations, and develop management plans. Follow-up care may be necessary for some patients.
You will employ pharmacology, psychotherapy, education, and motivational interviewing techniques as potential modes of intervention. An understanding of cultural influences, particularly within the indigenous population, is crucial. Services can be provided remotely or in-person, with outreach being requested when needed.
We welcome applicants who are General/Adult Psychiatrists with an interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Key benefits include no office overhead and potential additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including a Recruitment Incentive up to $10,000, Relocation payment up to $15,000, Flat Fee of $4,880, Fee Premium of 4.2%, and CME payments of $3,600 annually after four years in the community.
Estimated Salary: $250,000-$300,000 annually, depending on experience.
