Salary and BenefitsThe successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary, with an estimated annual income ranging from $250,000 to $400,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Additionally, Island Health offers a comprehensive benefits package, including free shared office space, secretary, telephone, fax, and email, as well as eligibility for additional remuneration through the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA).
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a General Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) programs in the Cowichan Valley. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with primary care providers, consult to various programs, and participate in research opportunities. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about delivering high-quality psychiatric care and contributing to the development of mental health services in our community.
The MHSU program provides a modified psychiatrist on-call response with a crisis response team for the Cowichan District Hospital Emergency Department and throughout the hospital, connected to our consultation-liaison function. This can be supported by BC's "Medical On Call Availability Program" (MOCAP) depending on level of service.
As Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program, there is opportunity for training of medical students and residents and applying for a clinical appointment is expected.
Required Skills and QualificationsWe are looking for a highly skilled and experienced General Psychiatrist who possesses strong clinical and communication skills, with a passion for delivering high-quality psychiatric care. The successful candidate must have:
- Demonstrated expertise in general psychiatry, with a strong understanding of mental health and substance use disorders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in psychiatry.
