Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Family Support Worker to join our team at Dixon Hall. As a Family Support Worker, you will work closely with children and youth in the community, providing informal support and guidance to help them achieve their goals.

In this role, you will plan and implement effective programs for parents and youth, as well as mentor and coach individuals to develop essential life skills. You will work collaboratively with our team and partner agencies to provide comprehensive support to the Regent Park community.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide informal support to children and youth in the community, helping them access necessary resources and services.
  • Work with parents and caregivers to develop skills in managing relationships, health, education, and other important areas of life.
  • Mentor and coach youth to develop essential life skills, including goal setting, time management, and conflict resolution.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the community, ensuring seamless support delivery.
  • Plan and implement successful programs for parents and youth, including workshops, activities, and outings.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Social Work or Social Sciences, or a college diploma in Social Services, along with 3-4 years' experience working with youth in community settings.
  • Significant experience in parent engagement and youth mentoring, as well as leadership roles within diverse communities.
  • A deep understanding of issues affecting youth at risk, particularly young women and girls.
  • Experience with casework processes, including needs assessments, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Knowledge of the youth justice system, child welfare system, employment, housing, and mental health systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing circumstances.
