Sign Language Interpreter

We are seeking a skilled Interpreter to provide high-quality visual communication services to students in a post-secondary setting. The successful candidate will interpret classroom lectures, activities, and campus events, ensuring effective communication and equal access to education.
Key Responsibilities:- Interpret classroom lectures, activities, and campus events in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or oral interpretation and English.
- Provide linguistic match with students' needs in ASL or Contact sign (Signed English).
- Establish effective working relationships with students and educational team members.
- Adapt to changing situations and prioritize workload.
- Meet work performance standards set by Langara College.
- Completion of Grade 12 and graduation from a recognized Interpreter Training Program (ITP).
- AVLIC Written Test of Knowledge (WTK) required.
- Four (4) years of recent related experience interpreting in ASL and/or oral interpretation and English in an educational setting.
- Post-Secondary Sign Language Screen preferred (applies to sign language assignments).
- Minimum 90 hours of Oral Training (applies to oral assignments).
- Bilingual in ASL and English and bicultural (an understanding of deaf culture).
- Demonstrates skill in a wide spectrum of ASL/English vocabulary choices to match student need.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to work harmoniously with others.
