About the Role

The Customized Employment Coach will:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with employers to source work experience placements and community attachment opportunities for clients;
  • Support clients in job search activities to secure work experiences, volunteer positions, and paid employment opportunities;
  • Provide follow-up support to clients at the workplace to ensure that clients maintain sustainable employment.

Responsibilities

  • Identify job opportunities tailored to the skills, abilities, and competencies of the client;
  • Assess and refer clients for specialized assessments when needed to facilitate the development of an Action Plan (including medical assessment reports, psychological and vocational assessments, learning disability assessments, neuropsychological assessments, and functional capacity assessments);
  • Promote the benefits and employment support services of Douglas College's employment programs to employers in targeted industry sectors, the local business community, industry associations, and relevant community agencies;
  • Analyze and utilize current local labor market information to source employment opportunities for participants;
  • Provide ongoing guidance, follow-up support, and assistance to both employers and clients in volunteer and employment placements;
  • Maintain records of participant progress and provide updates through regular team meetings;
  • Initiate, promote, organize, and host a wide range of industry/employer events to enhance participant employment opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, employment, and career counseling experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Providing support to individuals with disabilities to function productively in employment;
    • Working with individuals with complex barriers to employment and a broad range of cultural backgrounds;
    • Identifying assistive technology solutions for individuals with disabilities;
    • Building partnerships with stakeholders and employers.
