About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Survey Technician 2(A)-(B) to join our team in the Survey Division of the Land Services Branch. As a key member of our team, you will provide operational support for land transactions by researching, preparing, and reviewing plans for the disposal and/or acquisition of Crown lands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compile and draft various types of plans in support of land transactions, including leases, Crown grants, owner unknown acquisitions, certificates of release, and special leases.
  • Perform detailed survey examinations by reviewing submissions and ensuring compliance with guidelines for surveying on Crown lands, the Nova Scotia Lands Surveyors Act, and the Nova Scotia Land Surveyors Standards of Practice.
  • Utilize computer-aided drafting software to delineate survey lines, compute area calculations, perform plan analysis, and filter and convert digital data into various formats for implementation in a GIS environment.
  • Review and utilize supporting information for the order of survey package from various sources, including Crown Land Online (CLO), Property Online (POL), DocuShare, Surveys Division survey plans, field notes, historical records, field plot envelopes, and survey annex files.
  • Review legal descriptions for private sector and provincial and federal government agencies to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require a Diploma in Surveying Technology and demonstrated experience in conducting technical reviews of field surveys and survey plan submissions, drafting plans, researching historical documentation, and compiling records for investigation purposes.

You will also need to possess knowledge of survey law, land transaction requirements, and survey requirements, as well as the ability to identify process roadblocks and help streamline product delivery by improving efficiencies, building transparency, and communicating effectively with all stakeholders.
