Job Title: Senior Manager, Commercial and Legal

The RTM team is seeking a seasoned lawyer to serve as its Commercial and Legal Manager, overseeing critical commercial and legal issues to support the organization's continued success in delivering maintenance operations for the system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the legal and commercial affairs of EllisDon's Ottawa Light Rail Project, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with EllisDon's commercial objectives, providing expert advice on a wide range of commercial matters within a complex Public Private Partnership (P3) environment.
  • Manage and resolve disputes, including overseeing multiplex litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes, while safeguarding EllisDon's interests and minimizing risk.
  • Lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment, and work closely with senior/executive management and cross-functional teams to support business development and operational goals.
  • Represent EllisDon in negotiations and communications with external parties, serving as the primary legal liaison for external stakeholders, consortia partners, and legal counsel.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 6-10 years of legal experience with a focus on commercial law, including experience in a senior or director-level role.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD), or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from an accredited law school, with a business degree or qualification considered advantageous.
  • Experience in Public Private Partnerships and Operations & Maintenance, with proven expertise in commercial contract negotiation and management.
  • A strong understanding of commercial law, risk management, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
