Job Description

Under the direction of a Senior Counsel and Team Leader, Legal Services, the Legal Counsel provides comprehensive and expert legal advice and services to Members of Parliament and officials of the House of Commons in a professional, non-partisan, confidential and timely manner, on complex issues related to constitutional law, parliamentary law, administrative law, contracts and procurement, privacy law, and employment law among others.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal advice on public law issues
  • Provide strategic and timely legal advice on complex legal issues
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of contract law, procurement law, employment law, and parliamentary law
Requirements:
  • Law degree from a recognized university
  • Experience in providing expert legal advice on public law issues
  • Experience in providing strategic and timely legal advice on complex legal issues
Assets:
  • Knowledge of contract law and procurement law
  • Knowledge of employment law
  • Knowledge of parliamentary law

Each bilingual position is assigned a linguistic profile that identifies the level of second language proficiency for reading comprehension, written expression, and oral interaction required.

Qualified candidates may be considered for future vacancies for this role or for other similar and/or related roles on an indeterminate and/or fixed term basis.
