Student Care Support Professional

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is seeking a full-time Student Care Counsellor to join their team in Creative Manitoba. As a Student Care Support Professional, you will play a pivotal role in creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive school environment for students participating in the Professional Division and Dance Intensive programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance, counsel, and support to students, acting as a trustworthy authority figure.
- Advocate for students internally and externally with individuals or organizations, ensuring their needs are met.
- Coordinate mediation meetings to resolve conflicts between students, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
- Arrange meetings with School staff, Medical Support Team, and other health professionals on behalf of students.
- Provide students with information and advice to address harassment, discrimination, and bullying, promoting a culture of respect and empathy.
- Offer support, motivation, and encouragement for students with injuries and other concerns, helping them overcome challenges.
- Assist new students in becoming acclimated to School life, ensuring a smooth transition.
Communication and Leadership:
- Facilitate individual and group check-ins with students, maintaining open and honest communication.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/legal guardians in relation to student wellness, keeping them informed and involved.
- Attend meetings with academic schools for Boarding students, acting as a parent representative and providing valuable insights.
- Collaborate with School Management in the creation and implementation of Student Care and Support policies and procedures.
- Partner with Boarding Management in the development of Boarding policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.
- Teach and facilitate peer relationship and wellness programming for students, promoting social skills and emotional intelligence.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, Humanities, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
- Background in Counselling or Education, with a strong understanding of child welfare and development.
- Supervisory or management experience is an asset, demonstrating leadership capabilities.
- ASIST or the equivalent suicide assessment/intervention training, ensuring expertise in crisis response and intervention.
- Valid class IV Driver's license; or willing and eligible to obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification required, showcasing commitment to student safety.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills, facilitating effective collaboration and problem-solving.
- Caring, nurturing, and trustworthy authority figure, with excellent interpersonal and motivation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assess student services, utilizing results to improve service and program delivery.
Estimated Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This position offers a competitive salary, opportunities for growth and professional development, and a chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students.
