POSITION TITLE Cultural Support Specialist

POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME

Position Description:

The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre is seeking a Cultural Support Specialist to join our team at the North Star Lodge. As a member of our team, you will provide culturally sensitive supports, guidance, and teachings to our residents by providing access to ceremonies and acting as a role model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide cultural support and guidance to residents, including access to ceremonies and traditional practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members and organizations to ensure cultural safety and relevance.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and other team members to ensure the delivery of culturally sensitive services.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance cultural knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to cultural safety and the well-being of Indigenous women and their families.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience and community recognition as a cultural resource.
  • Must have previous experience in providing cultural supports to the community, including conducting or assisting in ceremonies and traditional practices.
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant approaches and practices is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a service team is essential.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is a definite asset.
  • Driver's license is required.
