Position Overview:

The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre is seeking a skilled Cultural Support to join our North Star Lodge team. As a key member of our team, you will provide culturally sensitive supports, guidance, and teachings to our residents, promoting positive change and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide access to ceremonies and act as a role model, promoting cultural safety and understanding.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop and implement culturally relevant programs and services.
  • Conduct or assist in Sweats, Teaching Circles, and other healing ceremonies, leveraging your expertise and community recognition.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members, fostering a culture of respect and trust.
  • Support the development of culturally relevant approaches and practices, ensuring alignment with the Centre's goals and service policies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are essential for this role, as you will be working as part of a service team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and community members.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and the ability to work in a culturally sensitive environment are essential.
  • A driver's license is required for this role.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience and community recognition as a cultural resource.
  • Previous experience in providing cultural supports to the community, including conducting or assisting in Sweats, Teaching Circles, and other healing ceremonies.
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant approaches and practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a service team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is a definite asset.
