Job Summary:

The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre is seeking a skilled and compassionate Cultural Support Specialist to join our team at the North Star Lodge. As a key member of our service team, you will provide culturally sensitive supports, guidance, and teachings to our residents, enabling them to achieve positive change and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide access to ceremonies and act as a role model, promoting cultural safety and understanding.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop and implement culturally relevant programs and services.
  • Conduct or assist in Sweats, Teaching Circles, and various Healing Ceremonies, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members, fostering trust and cooperation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of service policies and standards.
  • Provide excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of cultural safety and its application in a service setting.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is a definite asset.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience and community recognition as a cultural resource.
  • Proven experience in providing cultural supports to the community, including conducting or assisting in Sweats, Teaching Circles, and various Healing Ceremonies.
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant approaches and practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a service team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is a definite asset.
  • Driver's license is required.
