Employee Relations Officer

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is a dynamic and progressive employer committed to delivering quality educational programs and services. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Employee Relations Officer to join our team. This is a permanent position that requires a strong understanding of labour relations, human resources, and employee relations best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic advice to Board management on labour relations matters, including employee misconduct, legislative requirements, collective agreement administration, and performance management.
  • Assist with preparation for collective bargaining, including developing strategies and proposals.
  • Conduct thorough grievance and complaint investigations, including collection of data and conducting interviews.
  • Participate in policy development for the Board.
  • Liaise with management staff and union officials to foster constructive communication and working relationships.
  • Develop and deliver training on labour relations matters to enhance managers' ability to manage labour relations issues.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Board's Pay Equity Plans and Job Evaluation programs.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in Industrial or Labour Relations, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) designation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the field of Human Resources/Labour Relations in a unionized environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation and case law.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Human Resources/Employee Relations best practices, applicable legislation, policies, procedures, and collective agreements.
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience in a large, unionized, public sector environment is preferred.
  • Experience in the Education sector is an asset.
  • Experience using human resources information systems.
  • Strong policy development and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in drafting and editing written communications and superior documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to facilitate group discussions/meetings, develop and make presentations, and deliver training.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent strategic planning, issues management, analytical problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment, tact, and sensitivity with confidentiality and discretion in dealing with internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and successfully complete projects.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
