We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Employee Relations Officer to join our team. This is a permanent position that requires a strong understanding of labour relations, human resources, and employee relations best practices.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide strategic advice to Board management on labour relations matters, including employee misconduct, legislative requirements, collective agreement administration, and performance management.
- Assist with preparation for collective bargaining, including developing strategies and proposals.
- Conduct thorough grievance and complaint investigations, including collection of data and conducting interviews.
- Participate in policy development for the Board.
- Liaise with management staff and union officials to foster constructive communication and working relationships.
- Develop and deliver training on labour relations matters to enhance managers' ability to manage labour relations issues.
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Board's Pay Equity Plans and Job Evaluation programs.
- University degree in Industrial or Labour Relations, Human Resources, or a related field.
- CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) designation.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the field of Human Resources/Labour Relations in a unionized environment.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation and case law.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Human Resources/Employee Relations best practices, applicable legislation, policies, procedures, and collective agreements.
- Experience in a large, unionized, public sector environment is preferred.
- Experience in the Education sector is an asset.
- Experience using human resources information systems.
- Strong policy development and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in drafting and editing written communications and superior documentation skills.
- Proven ability to facilitate group discussions/meetings, develop and make presentations, and deliver training.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent strategic planning, issues management, analytical problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment, tact, and sensitivity with confidentiality and discretion in dealing with internal and external contacts.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and successfully complete projects.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
