Key Responsibilities:- Provide operational leadership and guidance to H&S efforts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Develop and implement H&S policies, procedures, and emergency response programs to mitigate risks.
- Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the company's quality, safety, and environmental management system (QSMS).
- Drive system compliance of vessel, operations, and technical leaders under H&S programs, aiming for zero harm.
- Apply HSQE best practices and risk assessment methodologies to minimize risk to crews, assets, customers, and the environment.
- Lead the incident management process, providing guidance and oversight, and participating in investigations to create preventative and proactive measures.
- Monitor and assess emerging HSQE regulatory changes, proactively alerting the organization to potential impacts.
- Assess hazards and safety protocols for new jobs, projects, or identified gaps in existing systems.
- Oversee client/contractor safety pre-qualification processes.
- Foster engagement with Safety Representatives and drive partnerships across departments to deliver exceptional health and safety programs.
- Participate in sharing safety-related information, skills, and best practices across the organization.
- Perform internal and external audits to provide recommendations for corrective findings.
- Provide onboarding orientation to new hires and occasional safety-related training.
- Visit company vessels to evaluate and examine current H&S measures.
- Degree or Diploma in H&S or a related field.
- Minimum 8-10 years of related work experience in safety or a related field, with strong knowledge of Federal and international laws and regulations, as well as ISM, ISPS, and MLC Management systems.
- Experience with tanker or oil major related industries is preferable.
- Knowledge of federal marine safety-related acts and regulations.
- Strong ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards to the marine industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to generate detailed and comprehensive reporting.
- Ability to investigate and resolve workplace incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
- Certified trainer or experience in providing training, such as First Aid & CPR, is considered an asset.
- Auditing capabilities in the Federal HSE environment are considered an asset.
- Experience within the marine industry is considered an asset.
- Burlington head office with some travel to company vessels and warehouse(s).
- Additional hours may be required dependent on operational demand.
- Hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of onboarding.
