Position Overview

The Health Care Aide plays a vital role in supporting residents and patients in meeting their personal care needs. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, this position assists with daily living activities, adhering to established care plans and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents and patients with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Support with mobility and transfers, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and patients
  • Participate in the development and implementation of care plans, working collaboratively with the care team
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents and patients, promoting a sense of dignity and respect
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, adhering to confidentiality and privacy requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Acute Care)
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and privacy requirements, including PHIA and FIPPA legislation
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements, including WHMIS
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, prioritizing tasks and managing workload
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with residents, patients, and colleagues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion

Conditions of Employment

  • Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as required
  • Immunization requirements, in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policy
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance, as required for certain program areas
