Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our Hereditary Cancer Program team at BC Cancer. As a Unit Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring seamless communication and coordination between healthcare teams and patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and process clinician orders, preparing requisitions for tests or services, and communicating with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, preparing and communicating related instructions.
  • Gather patient information for medical appointments, facilitating efficient patient flow.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including greeting and registering patients, and supporting wayfinding.
  • Provide administrative support to the clinical team, preparing documents and communicating with patients.

Requirements

  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard 40 wpm and operate related equipment.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
