Job Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse in the Operating Room at Brightshores plays a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety. Reporting to the Manager, this RPN assesses perioperative patient needs, performs activities that demonstrate nursing accountability, and provides and utilizes equipment and supplies based on need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess perioperative patient needs and develop individualized care plans
  • Perform activities that demonstrate nursing accountability, including medication administration and wound care
  • Provide and utilize equipment and supplies based on need, ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and make recommendations for improvement
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care

Qualifications

  • Current Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Successful completion of the Operating Room certificate (and preferably at least two years of OR experience)
  • Ability to scrub in all services
  • Knowledge of the current ORNAC standards
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to flex time to meet unit's need
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving, decision making and organizational skills
  • Ability to respond to urgent/emergency situations
  • Must be willing to take call and be available to reach the hospital within 20 minutes
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
  • Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and 'LEAD' Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
