About the Position

We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Professor, Bachelor of Design to join our team at the University of Toronto Mississauga. This is a full-time teaching stream appointment in the area of Design and Interactive Media Production with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in digital media, communication, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or user-centered design by the appointment start date, or shortly thereafter. They will be expected to teach and develop courses in design pedagogy and digital media production, as well as contribute to curriculum development and innovation.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Teaching and developing courses in design pedagogy and digital media production
- Contributing to curriculum development and innovation
- Mentoring students and supporting their academic success
- Participating in departmental and university-wide initiatives and activities

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have a PhD degree in digital media, communication, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or user-centered design. They must also have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and pedagogical research on experiential pedagogy that may include innovative teaching and assessment methods emphasizing the connections between design thinking, production, UI design & analysis, and broader curriculum development.

Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. They must also demonstrate a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry is required and can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference.

What We Offer

The University of Toronto offers a comprehensive compensation package that includes a competitive salary range of $95,000 - $125,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

In addition to the salary, the successful candidate will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, as well as access to retirement savings plans and other employee benefits.
