On-Corridor Works Project

We are part of the ONxpress consortium, working towards transforming the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas' (GTHA) collective mobility through the On-Corridor Works project. This ambitious endeavor involves upgrading electric locomotives, train control systems, network electrification, and more.

Job Description: Interlocking System Designer

The Interlocking System Designer plays a crucial role in ensuring safe train movements by analyzing customer and product requirements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Block Design Development
    • Create single line signalling plans with signal locations, switch machine locations, and types;
    • Update single line signalling plans with track circuits, interlocking zones, level crossings, approach limits, and timers;
    • Develop double line signalling plans containing all necessary information, including ETCS level 2 details;
    • Determine signal sighting;
    • Calculate safety braking performance;
    • Prepare Route & Aspects charts for all signals/routes;
    • Generate Block Design Reports.
  • Project Solution Definition
    • Define the IXL Architecture components, including Central Interlocking Computer, Remote Area Controllers, HMI servers, and Clients, to meet customer requirements;
    • Design pre-fitted solutions for Central Interlocking Computer, Remote Area Controllers, and Safe HMI Clients, considering racks, cubicle housing, internal cabling, power supply needs, and interfaces with other subsystems/equipment;
    • Organize and lead activities for producing an exhaustive documental set to facilitate correct assembly and off-site testing (FAT) of pre-fitted solutions;
    • Determine the IXL equipment breakdown (racks, electronic actuators, power supply, cabling) of the pre-fitted solution;
    • Evaluate adherence to reference processes applicable to solution design, methods, and tools, requesting deviations when necessary;
  • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
    • Support Installation and Test & Commissioning teams during the first installation and testing of the solution;
    • Take into account REX from on-site activities for continuous improvement of the solution and documentation;
    • Share knowledge of IXL system architecture features with the project engineering community;
    • Represent Alstom in front of customers to provide detailed explanations of the IXL architecture solution and features;
    • Select and manage subcontractors (if any);
    • Manage work packages or related tasks assigned for defining new IXL architectures and pre-fitted solutions.
Requirements

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • An Engineering Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline;
  • P. Eng certification or be in progress;
  • 5-10 years of experience in relevant positions (systems/sub-systems application design or integration, electrotechnical product development) in a highly complex and normative environment (railway signaling, aerospace, defense).
Competencies & Skills

We seek individuals with strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, a sense of urgency, and excellent writing skills. Fluency in English is required.
