About the Role

We're seeking a skilled professional to join our Property Large Loss team as a Field Adjuster - Large Loss Claims Specialist.

Workplace

This is a remote opportunity, with some regions potentially favored.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and investigate large and complex commercial property claims, typically with exposures over $1M or involving specialized types of losses.
  • Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, appraisers, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages.
  • Mentor, guide, and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning.
  • Train colleagues on complex claims handling.
  • Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned.
  • Provide excellent customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues.
  • Deliver key performance indicators related to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
  • Leverage expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations.
  • Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate.
  • Attend settlement conferences and trials.

Requirements

  • A critical thinker with intellectual curiosity when approaching complex problems in time-sensitive situations.
  • A skilled communicator able to foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients.
  • A problem-solver able to gather information, evaluate a situation, and negotiate the next steps toward a solution.

  • A planner able to effectively organize to establish an effective strategy.
  • A strong collaborator with a passion for mentoring and coaching others.
  • 10+ years of experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims.
  • Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
  • Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset).
  • Travel required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
