Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as a Mental Health Nurse Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to individuals with serious mental illnesses, working collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to promote recovery and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments, to inform treatment planning.
  • Provide ECT health teaching to patients and their caregivers, ensuring they understand the treatment process and potential outcomes.
  • Manage ECT treatments, collaborating with Psychiatrists and PACU teams to ensure safe and effective delivery.
  • Administer psychotropic medications, monitoring side effects and contraindications, and providing education on medication management.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating principles of recovery-based care.
  • Collaborate with community partners to facilitate seamless transitions between hospital and community settings.
Requirements
  • Certified as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Current BCLS certification and ACLS preferred.
  • Three to five years' experience in acute mental health settings, with expertise in ECT and psychiatric medications.
  • Excellent understanding of DSM IV classification, crisis prevention, and management of potentially aggressive patients.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in an interprofessional team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous learning.
