We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sales Representative to join our team at Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd. as a Trade Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and growing company, where you will be responsible for actively securing optimal sales volumes, maintaining and growing customer relationships, and identifying new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Actively solicit and secure optimal sales volumes weekly based on confirmed availability and specific market offerings.
- Act as a brand ambassador for Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd. globally, representing the company at trade shows and industry meetings.
- Maintain and grow existing customer relationships and business portfolio.
- Identify, target, and nurture new customer leads and opportunities to expand and optimize customer portfolio and overall results.
- Manage and oversee all aspects of the full sales cycle from offer to payment.
- Point person to facilitate any required problem-solving associated with secured loads.
- Review customer/market performance monthly for trends, growth/lost business, and upsell opportunities.
- Assess current commodity portfolio and provide recommendations for long-term strategy options to best optimize Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd.'s business mix to support future business growth potential.
- Identify export business opportunities that are aligned with Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd.'s current and future processing capabilities.
- Provide ongoing real-time pertinent industry, customer, and competitive pricing intel to the Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd. Sales Team to support ongoing pricing decisions.
- Develop a robust understanding of Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd.'s current export portfolio to ensure new business opportunities are synergistic with current and projected key value-added business.
- Proactively monitor daily volume and inventories versus forecast and assist in the facilitation and disposition of surplus products.
- Strong understanding of product specifications and processes, serving as a brand ambassador for existing and new products.
- Partner with sales teams to ensure seamless execution of selling and category optimization.
- Confidently conduct customer tours in all areas of the plant.
- Research and gather industry market intel from internal experts and external sources; build a network, and review industry newsletters/market reports.
- Represent Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd. at relative trade shows and industry meetings as required.
- Facilitate, supervise, and support any pre-approved customer visits or required entertainment.
- Adhere to all Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd. policies and business code of ethics.
- Attend company-required training.
- Remain current with technical knowledge in areas of responsibility.
- Attend regular 1:1 coaching/update sessions.
- 2-3 years of sales experience.
- Post-secondary education in a related field.
- Experience working in the protein/disassembly industry preferred.
- Experience with meat export and/or import regulatory compliance and with international business transactions and shipping documents, or related experience an asset.
- Bilingual in a second language an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time with limited supervision, excellent planning, time management, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong business acumen, ability to think strategically, and to analyze market trends.
- Takes initiative and demonstrates a 'do whatever it takes' work ethic to get the job done.
- Helps to assess the pros and cons of taking a risk, and makes recommendations on the best course of action.
- Maintains genuine relationships with customers and stays on top of changing business needs.
- Displays personal ownership and a sense of urgency over any issues or complaints that arise from the customer experience.
