Job Title: Pharmacy Technician
Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps). The technician will also assist in entering prescriptions into the prescription software, filling and billing prescriptions, and scheduling patients for repeat medications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the pharmacist in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps).
- Assist the pharmacist in entering prescriptions into the prescription software and filling/billing such prescriptions.
- Schedule patients for repeat medications.
- Assist the pharmacist in preparing compounding sheets for the preparation of medication.
- Assist the pharmacist in programming infusion pumps for medication delivery and preparing other devices.
- Assist the pharmacist in the preparation and labeling of medications as allowed by law.
- Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from prescribers, ensuring prescription completeness, and provide prescription transfers.
- Package and dispense prescription medications after a pharmacist has decided on the appropriateness of therapy by confirming accuracy, completeness, and final check of compounded sterile products and prepared prescriptions.
- Check the final compounded sterile product for the absence of particulate matter and container integrity.
- Ensure prescription(s) gets matched to the right delivery in good timing to shipping.
- Assist the pharmacist in filling refill medications through the prescription software.
- Communicate appropriately with all members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain pharmacy records, including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records.
- Clean work areas routinely in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Document appropriately according to P&Ps, all activities using required paperwork (logs).
- Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, education programs, and department/branch meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualification:
Qualifications:
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Registered with the College of Pharmacists and in good standing.
- Experience in a busy community pharmacy setting or specialty pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Organized and disciplined; basic computer skills.
