Job Title: Registered Pharmacy Technician
Job Summary:
The Registered Pharmacy Technician will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to process prescriptions, prepare medication compounding sheets, and program infusion pumps. The successful candidate will assist in the final check of prescriptions, receive phone calls, and perform tasks within scope to ensure smooth operations of the pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the pharmacist in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps).
- Enter prescriptions into the prescription software (Kroll) and fill/bill such prescriptions.
- Schedule patients for repeat medications.
- Prepare compounding sheets for the preparation of medication.
- Program infusion pumps for medication delivery and prepare other devices.
- Prepare and label medications as allowed by law.
- Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from prescribers, ensuring prescription completeness, and provide prescription transfers.
- Package and dispense prescription medications after a pharmacist has decided on the appropriateness of therapy.
- Check the final compounded sterile product for the absence of particulate matter and container integrity.
- Ensure prescription(s) gets matched to the right delivery in good timing to shipping.
- Fulfill refill medications through the prescription software (Kroll).
- Communicate appropriately with all members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain pharmacy records, including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records.
- Clean work areas routinely in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Document appropriately according to P&Ps, all activities using required paperwork (logs).
- Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, education programs, and department/branch meetings.
Qualifications:
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Registered with the College of Pharmacists and in good standing.
- Experience in a busy community pharmacy setting or specialty pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Organized and disciplined; basic computer skills.
