Safety Supervisor Mechanical Car Operations

Job Summary
CP is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mechanical Car Operations Safety Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees and the public while maintaining the quality of our mechanical car operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Safety Meetings and Activities: Lead safety meetings, conduct end of shift briefings, and ensure that safety rules and procedures are followed.
- Investigate and Correct Safety Incidents: Investigate and document safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Support Key Performance Indicators: Communicate and deliver on key performance indicators, ensuring that all direct reports understand their role in achieving business objectives.
- Collaborate with Management: Interact regularly with management to ensure that freight car repair and train servicing meet internal and external customer expectations.
- Manage Resources and Budget: Ensure that stock and materials are adequate, order within prescribed limits, and support expenditure reduction initiatives.
- Foster Positive Working Relationships: Maintain communication with local union officials, ensure the collective agreement is understood, and manage it as written.
- Support Continuous Improvement: Participate in Consequence Leadership, provide employees with positive and constructive feedback, and support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness.
- Ensure Compliance and Quality: Ensure that freight car bad order repair, cycle time, dwell time, productivity, and key metrics are met, and coordinate with Field Operations to repair bad order freight cars in a timely manner.
- Support Emergency Response: Support mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction, adhering to the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plan.
- Communicate with Counterparts: Communicate and interact regularly with local and external counterparts.
- Develop Self-Managed Work Teams: Work directly with employees to establish self-managed work teams, provide guidance and support, and bring about an empowered and engaged workforce.
Requirements:
- Education and Certifications: High school diploma or mechanical trade certification.
- Railway Operations Knowledge: Proficient knowledge of railway operations (road, yard, freight car, mechanical).
- CPKC Systems Knowledge: Working knowledge of CPKC systems (CIM, TYES, Nexus, SAP, and Wreck Estimator) is an asset.
- Software Skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Collective Agreement Knowledge: Knowledge of collective agreement and non-union policies.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to drill down, understand root cause, and resolve complex issues.
- Adaptability and Communication: Ability to work with diverse employees, be adaptable, and communicate effectively.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and shift work.
