Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Youth and Family Therapist to join our Community Safety Department. As a key member of our team, you will provide professional social services counselling aimed at preventing/reducing negative contact with the police and criminal behavior by children and youth throughout the City.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct Assessments and Provide Counselling: Research, assess, and take remedial action in the provision of direct confidential clinical counselling services to children/youth and their families.
  2. Meet with Parents/Guardians: Identify challenges and areas of risk through meetings with parent(s)/guardian(s).
  3. Case Management and Reporting: Conduct case management for assigned portfolios and prepare assessments, case histories, and reports on clients.
  4. Other Related Work: Perform other related work as required.
Qualifications
  1. Master's Degree and Registration: A Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field supplemented with a registered designation of a professional association, plus considerable experience in children, youth, and family clinical counselling, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. Professional Registration and Driver's License: Registration with a professional body (e.g. BCACC, RSW, RCC, CCC) is required, along with a Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
  3. Experience and Knowledge: Sound related experience in counselling youth and their families, as well as knowledge of the resources available for vulnerable youth in the community.
  4. Assessment and Counselling Skills: Ability to conduct assessments and provide counselling sessions to children, youth, and parent(s)/guardian(s).
  5. Reporting and Record-Keeping: Sound experience preparing reports and maintaining records and files for assigned portfolios is required.
  6. Security Clearance: The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
Working Conditions

Hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and are scheduled by the department on an as needed basis. Hours for this position can start as early as 5:00am and can be as late as 8:00pm Monday to Sunday (minimum 4 hour shifts).
