Family and Youth Support Specialist

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of youth and families? Do you possess the expertise to deliver effective and empathetic professional counselling? If so, consider joining our Community Safety Department as a Family and Youth Support Specialist. In this role, you will offer professional social services counselling aimed at preventing and mitigating negative interactions with law enforcement and reducing criminal behavior among children and youth in the community. You will provide direct and confidential prevention and intervention services through clinical counselling to children, youth, and their families, utilizing various assessments and therapeutic techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting research, assessments, and implementing remedial actions in delivering direct confidential clinical counselling services to children, youth, and their families;
  2. Engaging with parents or guardians to identify challenges and areas of concern;
  3. Managing cases for assigned portfolios and preparing assessments, case histories, and reports on clients;
  4. Performing additional related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  1. A Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, along with a registered designation from a professional association and substantial experience in clinical counselling for children, youth, and families, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  2. Registration with a professional body (e.g., BCACC, RSW, RCC, CCC) is mandatory;
  3. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia;
  4. Relevant experience in counselling youth and their families, along with knowledge of available resources for vulnerable youth in the community;
  5. Proficiency in conducting assessments and providing counselling sessions to children, youth, and parents or guardians;
  6. Experience in preparing reports and maintaining records and files for assigned portfolios;
  7. The candidate must obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.

Work hours and shifts will be determined by operational needs and scheduled by the department as required. Shifts may start as early as 5:00 AM and extend as late as 8:00 PM, Monday through Sunday (minimum 4-hour shifts).
