Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Ethics Review Officer to join our team. This is a critical role that requires a deep understanding of research ethics and the ability to provide expert guidance to researchers and faculty members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance to researchers and faculty members on research ethics and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Review and approve research proposals to ensure they meet the necessary ethical standards.

  • Develop and implement educational programs to promote research ethics awareness and compliance among researchers and faculty members.

  • Collaborate with other departments and faculties to establish and maintain Departmental Ethics Review Programs.

  • Train and mentor new members of the Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BREB) and provide ongoing support and guidance.

  • Conduct researcher team consultations to develop ethically appropriate research proposals for high-risk projects.

  • Act as a liaison with Research Ethics BC (REBC) for research involving the UBC BREB and other BC research ethics boards.

Requirements
  • Post-graduate degree or equivalent professional designation with a minimum of four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience as a researcher, research officer, senior clinical trial coordinator, or person with previous experience in ethics or equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of research procedures and Canadian Regulatory and Policy requirements for conducting research involving humans.

  • Ability to synthesize findings and make thoughtful, informed, and thorough decisions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to maintain cooperative relationships with the research community.
