Job Title: Systems Analyst

Job Summary:

The Systems Analyst III is a key member of the ICT Enterprise Applications Development team at Wilfrid Laurier University. This role is responsible for the full life-cycle development of Enterprise Solutions, ensuring maximum effectiveness and usability in a web-enabled environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct systems analysis and design in accordance with accepted standards, including project management, process analysis, and database design.
  • Participate in implementation teams and coordinate with external and internal resources on new installations, upgrades, or migrations of Enterprise Solutions.
  • Ensure thorough testing and quality assurance of new software enhancements before releasing them into production.
  • Provide technical support and training to users, ensuring they have the necessary skills to effectively use and design application reporting systems.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality programming and development skills, as well as systems support, maintenance, and troubleshooting expertise in a client-server and web-enabled environment.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with Relational Database Management Systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, Informix, MS SQL) in a Linux/Windows operating system environment.
  • Minimum of five years of experience programming in at least two of the following languages: Java, C++, PHP, PL/SQL, JavaScript, Pro*C, Pro COBOL, Python, PowerShell, Shell Scripting.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with Tomcat and/or Apache web server.
  • Programming expertise with object-oriented, GUI, and web development tools and technologies (e.g., Oracle Developer, Eclipse, C++, Java).
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner, Degree Works, Oracle Forms, Evisions, BDM/AppXtender, One Card, Desire2Learn, CRM, financial reporting, portal, accounting systems is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the OSI model and its application in troubleshooting and isolating software and system issues.
  • Experience with Hannon Hill's Cascade, Apache Velocity, XSLT is an asset.
  • Experience with Sharepoint Online, Office365 is an asset.
  • Experience in developing and implementing applications and user interfaces in a web-enabled environment, utilizing backend databases and familiarity with PHP, SQL, JS/JQuery, XML, WordPress, and e-Commerce is an asset.
  • Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM methodology.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities and meet short deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with users of varying technical expertise.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with discretion and confidentiality.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, 2-year limited-term position with an end date of July 1, 2026. The normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to accommodate evening and/or weekend work as needed. The hiring salary range is $50.05 to $52.90, with an annual step progression up to $57.20. Considerations for new hire step placements include qualifications, length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates, internal equity, and estimated learning curve.
