Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Parksville, BC on a permanent full-time basis. The successful candidate will lead Civil Engineering projects, creating, managing, and preparing engineering designs, studies, and reports for land development and municipal infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Project Leadership: Lead Civil Engineering projects, including creating, managing, and preparing engineering designs, studies, and reports for land development and municipal infrastructure projects.
  2. Document Preparation: Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare development and construction cost estimates, tender documents and contracts, and coordinate with team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality standards are achieved.
  3. Opportunity Assessment: Assess opportunity viability for pursuing a proposal by engaging team members and selecting proposal writer if appropriate.
  4. Team Support: Provide non-technical guidance and support to team members.
  5. Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements with the broader team to increase efficiency and productivity.
  6. Client Management: Manage client relationships and projects to ensure client expectations and project performance goals are being met.
  7. New Business Development: Develop new business opportunities and establish strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners.
  8. Contract Administration: Provide construction contract administration for high-value or importance projects.
  9. Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  10. Team Coordination: Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure successful group operation.
  11. Safety Management: Complete the required safety forms for each project their staff are working on and ensure that safety policies and procedures are being followed by themselves and the team.
  12. Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship of junior and intermediate members of the Team, contributing technical expertise to conceptual design, detailed design, and construction administration activities.
  13. Reporting: Weekly and monthly reporting and participation in design and team meetings.
  14. Other Duties: Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Education: A minimum of a BSc degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university with at least 12 years of relevant, Canadian work experience.
  2. Registration: Must be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer in BC.
  3. Design Skills: Ability to design all municipal civil infrastructure, including but not limited to sites, roads, water, wastewater, stormwater, and grading.
  4. Project Management: Proven success leading project teams of engineers and technologists.
  5. Technical Writing: Strong technical writing skills for reports and proposals.
  6. Project Management Certification: Excellent Project Management skills, preference given to those with PMP certification.
  7. Contract Administration Certification: Excellent Contract Administration skills, preference given to those with MMCD CCA certification.
  8. Time Management: The ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines, and have exceptional organization skills.
  9. Work Ethic: Strong work ethic with the desire to excel and achieve success for the firm, the client, and the team.
  10. Driver's License: Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) and access to a vehicle.
  11. Software Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  12. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and detail-oriented skills along with exceptional time management skills.
  13. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  14. Teamwork: Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
Nice to Have
  1. Software Knowledge: Knowledge of computer software packages for roads, water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
  2. Stormwater Management: Experience preparing stormwater management plans (ISMPs), master drainage plans (MDP), site stormwater management plans, and watershed plans.
  3. Water and Wastewater Treatment: Experience with water & wastewater treatment processes, piping systems, and pumping systems.
  4. Environmental Permitting: Familiarity with environmental permitting, legislation, and regulations, including the RAPR.
  5. EGBC Guidelines: Familiarity with relevant EGBC Professional Practice Guidelines.
