About the Role

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a skilled School Counselor to join our team. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in providing a world-class educational experience for our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to students, teachers, and parents to promote academic success and well-being.
  • Develop and implement counseling programs to address the diverse needs of our students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assess and address the social, emotional, and academic needs of students.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies to provide resources and support for students.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling with a practicum relevant to the school environment.
  • Experience as a school counselor at the level specified in the posting.
  • Training in violence, threat, risk assessment (VTRA).
  • Successfully complete and maintain non-violent crisis intervention certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with community agencies regarding programs available to youth.
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification.
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports.

  • Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment.
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
  • Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students' interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning.
  • Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning, including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives.
  • Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive, and supportive of all students.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances.
