About the Role

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a skilled School Counselor to join our team. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to students in achieving their academic and personal goals
  • Develop and implement counseling programs to promote student well-being and success
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure student success
  • Conduct assessments and develop plans to support students with diverse needs
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to students in need
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling with a practicum relevant to the school environment
  • Experience as a school counselor at the level specified in the posting
  • Training in violence, threat, risk assessment (VTRA)
  • Successfully complete and maintain non-violent crisis intervention certification
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with community agencies regarding programs available to youth
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports

  • Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics
  • Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students' interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning
  • Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning, including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives
  • Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive, and supportive of all students
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
