Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Victim Services Volunteers. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and crisis intervention to victims of crime in our community.

About the Role

As a Victim Services Volunteer, you will be part of a team that provides critical support to victims of crime, including domestic violence, sexual assault, robberies, assaults, and motor vehicle accidents. You will work closely with our staff to provide emotional support, crisis intervention, and referral information to victims at the scene and during evening hours.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to victims of crime
  • Assist victims in navigating the justice system and accessing community resources
  • Work collaboratively with our staff to provide comprehensive support services
  • Attend training sessions and meetings to enhance your skills and knowledge
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working in a human services capacity, preferably in a crisis support role
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence and reliable transportation
  • Good driving record and ability to work late evenings
  • Computer savvy and able to use our database system
  • Able to commit to a minimum of one year as a volunteer
