Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental competencies required for managing a professional career in theatre. Students will develop a career plan, learn to manage legal and financial affairs, and write successful applications for arts funding.

The course will be delivered in person.

Requirements

To be eligible for this course, applicants must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in Theatre studies or a Professional Theatre School diploma. Additionally, they must have five years of professional experience as the artistic or administrative director of a theatre company, festival, or educational organization. Teaching experience at the university or conservatory level is also required. Furthermore, applicants must possess thorough knowledge of career management, including budget creation, collective agreement negotiation, performer contracts, tax rules for self-employed artists, grant writing, self-production, and current knowledge of Canadian theatre companies, associations, and artists.

An acceptable level of education and/or experience may be viewed as equivalent to the educational requirements and/or demonstrated experience.
