The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Fire Protection Engineering Lead to join our team at our Edmonton location. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled engineer to lead our fire protection engineering efforts and contribute to the growth of our company.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implementation: Contribute to all project phases, ensuring compliance with applicable fire safety codes and standards while adhering to defined scope, timelines, and budget.
- Fire Protection System Design: Design and specification of Fire Protection Systems, including but not limited to fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, smoke management systems, and emergency lighting systems.
- Engineering Drawings and Specifications: Prepare engineering drawings and specifications for fire protection systems to ensure detailed and accurate representation of the designed systems.
- Certification: Stamp engineering drawings and documents to certify compliance with applicable codes, standards, and professional engineering requirements.
- Client Specifications: Review Client Specifications to ensure that all fire protection requirements are understood and incorporated into the design.
- Technical Reports: Write technical reports and analyses to support design submissions, demonstrating the effectiveness and compliance of fire protection systems.
- Shop Drawings and Standards: Review shop drawings for compliance with the design and participate in the development of fire protection engineering standards to ensure consistency and high quality in all projects.
- Supplier and Contractor Management: Obtain proposals from and follow up with suppliers and contractors to ensure that the materials and workmanship meet the project's fire protection requirements.
- Project Coordination: Partner with cross-functional project team members to integrate fire protection systems with other building systems for a cohesive and efficient design.
- Site Visits and Audits: Visit project sites for project-related activities, including inspections and audits of existing fire protection systems and to ensure compliance with the fire safety design during construction.
- Fire Risk Assessments: Perform fire risk assessments and modelling, including egress modelling and fire dynamics simulations, to ensure the safety and efficiency of fire protection strategies.
Requirements
- Education: A Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Fire Protection, accompanied by a minimum of 10 years' experience in designing fire protection systems for commercial buildings, low/high-rise buildings, and multi-family residential buildings.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are essential to effectively coordinate with inter-discipline teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors, ensuring high-value engineering outcomes across projects.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge and familiarity with fire protection industry codes and standards, including NFPA codes, and the ability to apply these in conjunction with client specifications for detailed fire protection system design.
- Leadership and Business Development: Demonstrated leadership and business development skills to guide project teams and contribute to the growth of the fire protection engineering services.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in software tools relevant to fire protection engineering, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and HydraCAD.
- Language: Fluency in English is required for clear and effective communication across all levels of project involvement.
