About the Role

Aon is seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Underwriter to join our team in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, or Vancouver. As a key player in our construction underwriting team, you will be responsible for underwriting a variety of commercial insurance lines of business, including property and casualty, and some specialty lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite Builders Risk and Wrap Up liability policies
  • Analyze new business and project extensions, providing terms based on our underwriting guidelines
  • Develop clear and concise underwriting proposals for accounts outside of underwriting authority
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing within our program underwriting guidelines/authorities
  • Identify opportunities to upsell coverage, limits, or products
  • Provide high-level service with a customer-focused approach
  • Build relationships with brokers and markets
  • Be involved in training and development for junior underwriters/underwriting assistants
  • Monitor and assess competitive factors in the marketplace
Requirements
  • 5+ years of project construction underwriting experience
  • 5-10 years of commercial property and casualty experience in the contracting sector (an asset)
  • Cross-Canada underwriting experience (an asset)
  • AIIC/CIP and/or FCIP designation
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to be creative in solving problems
  • Robust analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate thought processes clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of the time sensitivity of the project construction market
  • Team player
  • Experience mentoring or training junior staff (an asset)
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Outlook
