Job Description

The Respiratory Virus Surveillance Coordinator/Epidemiologist plays a critical role in our COVID Control Branch, providing scientific leadership on SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses. As part of our team, you will manage and facilitate various activities related to grants and budgets, enhanced surveillance efforts, and respiratory virus data management and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with day-to-day coordination of statewide respiratory virus surveillance, including data entry, database maintenance, data interpretations, and report generation.
  • Participate in and coordinate ongoing development, testing, implementation, and evaluation of dashboards and reports.
  • Assist with data management, analysis, and quality control; create and test dashboards and metrics.
  • Utilize statistics and research methods commonly used in epidemiological research to analyze and report on public health data.
  • Contribute information to daily and weekly reports to leadership.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a Master's degree in public health or a related field, or equivalent work experience. You should also have experience implementing and managing public health programs, as well as grant writing, grant reporting, and budget management.

A strong understanding of public health fundamentals and principles is essential, along with excellent communication and analytical skills. Fluency in spoken English is required.

This is a remote position with occasional in-person work at the California Department of Public Health. A reliable internet connection is necessary.
